Pawan Hans Limited was incorporated in October, 1985 as a Government Company under the Administrative control of Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India. The Company was established mainly to provide helicopter support services to meet the requirements of the petroleum sector including ONGC, operate scheduled/non-scheduled helicopter services in inaccessible areas and difficult terrains, provide intra-city transportation and operate tourist charters. The Company has plans to enter into Fixed Wing Aircraft and Seaplane operations.


The Company commenced its commercial operations in October, 1986 and it has come a long way since then. It has an operational fleet of 43 helicopters consisting of 17 nos. Dauphin N, 15 nos. SA365 Dauphin N3, 3 nos. Mi-172, 3 nos. Bell 206 L4, 3 nos. Bell 407 and 2 nos. AS350 B3 helicopters.


The Company’s equity capital of Rs. 245.616 crores is held by the Government of India Rs. 125.266 crores (51%) and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) Rs. 120.350 crores (49%). The Company is Board managed and the Chairman & Managing Director is the chief executive . While the Headquarter is located in New Delhi/NOIDA, it has Regional offices at Mumbai, Delhi and Guwahati.


Pawan Hans is a professionally managed Company having evolved its own systems of control covering major functional areas like Operations, Engineering, Finance, Personnel, Materials, Marketing, Info System etc. It is amongst the largest helicopter operators in the Asia-Pacific Region with the annual revenue of Rs. 477.51 crores (Provisional Actual/Unaudited) and net profit after tax of Rs. 28.47 crores (Provisional Actual/Unaudited) for the financial year 2015-16. The Company has several customers which includes ONGC from which it derives 40% of its operating revenue. The broad spectrum of its customer profile indicates that a substantial majority of them belong to the Government Sector.


Pawan Hans has been providing services to the Nation in various sectors of national importance, Pawan Hans has gone on expansion mode with establishing its own AME’s Training School, National Institute of Safety & Services, Heliport in Rohini, Helicopter Training Institute in Hadapsar, Pune and Para-military forces like BSF,etc.


National Institute of Helicopter Safety and Excellence was started in April,2011. The objective of the institute was to provide OJT training to student’s Competency checks, recurrent training , special VFR authorizations for crew as per CAR Section 7 Series ‘B’ Part XIV and CAR Section & Series O Part I for helicopter pilots. The institute also conduct Third Party Safety Audits of Maintenance and Operation facilities of state government aviation set ups and small operators in co-ordination and DGCA . The Institute also provide consultancy services to clients on helicopters related issues and undertake technical /business research projects.


Establishment of National Institute of Air Safety and Services ( NIASS) to oversee:

(a) PIB i.e. Permanent Investigation Board for accidents/incidents

(b) Internal/External Safety audits of bases/helipads/heliports


Establishment of Flight Safety organization to oversee

(a) Quality Assurance

(b) Accident/Incident Investigations

(c) Accident/Incident prevention cell


At NIASS special capsule of training is imparted to aircrew on the awareness and perception of advance weather specially Pre and post monsoon which may have qualitative impact as special tasks during Hill/Mountains /off-shore and pipeline survey/patrolling.


The Company plans to enter into Fixed Wing Aircraft and Seaplane operations. In view of expansion plans, the Company plans for deployment of Seaplane/Fixed Wing on wet lease basis as pilot project in coming financial years.


The Company is certified for its Quality Management System under ISO 9001:2000 standard to ISO 14001:2004 and 2008, OHS 18001. It is known as Integrated Management System covering Environment and Safety aspects.


The Company has in September’2010 framed Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainability Development (SD) policy based on the guidelines framed by Department of Public Enterpises (DPE).


The Company has a highly skilled and motivated manpower strength of 798 as on 31.04.2016.
